Natural Lighting for Every Room in Your Home

Are you ready to introduce more natural light into your home, but not sure where to start or what your options may be? Welcome to your Solatube master guide to natural lighting for your home! We’re going to show you some lighting examples from homes just like yours. We’ll also break it down by room type so you can get a feel for your daylighting options. From the size of the natural lighting system to add-ons and accessories, these are our personal recommendations.

Living Room Natural Lighting

For your living room, you’ll want to first assess how much space you’re working with. You’ll also want to consider how much light you’d like to bring in. To achieve a brighter living space, we recommend at least two Solatube Tubular Skylights. All Solatubes have the option of a circle or square shape and your choice of the decorative fixture. This will all depend on the style of your home. You can view our complete 4-step process of choosing your Solatube here. You’ll notice that we added our solar-powered Daylight Dimmer to the accessories. This lets you customize your lighting depending on if you’re entertaining, watching a movie during the day, taking a nap, etc.

Recommended accessories:

  • Solar NightLight
  • Light Add-on Kit

Bathroom

Bathrooms are the perfect place for natural lighting. Especially if they have only a small window and poor ventilation. Did you know we have a tubular skylight with an integrated humidity fan? It’s a life saver. Trust us. Most smaller bathrooms will do just fine with our 10-inch tubular skylight system. If you have a more spacious bathroom, a 14-inch tubular skylight would be ideal.

Recommended accessories:

  • Solar NightLight
  • Ventilation Add-on Kit

Hallway Natural Lighting

No windows? No problem. Hallways are our most popular request when it comes to natural lighting due to the fact that they’re notorious for being dark day or night. That’s why many customers opt for natural lighting in their hallway to save electricity. Even better, our Solar NightLight charges up inside the tubing during the day and provides a soft LED glow after dark. They also qualify the entire system for a solar tax credit! (cha-ching)

Kitchen

A dim kitchen is no place for entertaining. If you want to really wow your guests and increase the overall aesthetic of your kitchen space, natural lighting is the way to go. Much like living rooms, larger kitchen areas may require two or more tubular skylights. You’ll be amazed by the difference! We highly recommend adding a Solar NightLight to this room’s tubular skylights for those nights that call for a midnight snack.

Closet or Laundry Room

Closet Daylighting

Adding a traditional skylight to your closet or laundry room is usually frowned upon due to the fading of clothes. However, tubular skylights eliminate this issue. Since they block harmful UV rays and heat, you’ll never have to worry about fading your wardrobe again. Your days of getting ready in the dark are over. If you’d still like the option of switching on a light in these areas, our Light Add-on Kit is the perfect solution and integrates seamlessly with your Solatube.

Bedroom or Home Office

Many people might be hesitant to add more light to their bedroom. What if you could turn the lighting off whenever you want? You can with our Solar Daylight Dimmer! This is truly the best option for those who want to brighten their bedroom space, but also want to block it out with the press of a button. This is great for home offices as well since natural light is known for improving productivity.
